The handheld analyzer combines advanced power quality analysis, sophisticated logging, remote monitoring, and alarm delivery in one portable platform to support mission assurance, energy resilience, and critical-system reliability.
Summit Technology, a global leader in the design, manufacture, sale, and rental of electric power analyzers, accessories, software, and related services, highlights the PS5000 Power Analyzer, a handheld three-phase instrument that helps defense and military electrical professionals configure, conduct, and document power quality studies in the field. Combining power quality analysis, data logging, graphical diagnostics and compatibility with PowerSight Remote Monitoring, the PS5000 helps users identify developing issues, receive automated alarms and reduce unnecessary return visits during extended studies.
A color graphical display presents phasor diagrams, waveforms, harmonic graphs, trends, and table views to help users interpret and communicate on-site power-quality conditions. This gives base energy managers and mission-systems engineers an immediate visual view of power quality feeding critical facilities and systems, helping them quickly link electrical anomalies to mission-impacting system behavior. On-instrument configuration lets users adjust triggering and data setup without a laptop. At the same time, the patented SureStart embedded expert provides graphical feedback to help identify wiring and setup mistakes before a study begins.
TestPlan Manager, Data Setup Wizard, SureStart, and the ReportWriter wizard help standardize setup, reduce configuration errors, and accelerate documentation. PowerSight® Manager Advanced analysis and reporting software supports the process from data acquisition through final reporting.
During extended studies, compatibility with PowerSight Remote Monitoring enables users to receive automated alarms and gain immediate awareness of developing problems instead of waiting for a scheduled site visit to retrieve data. Teams can assess conditions and respond when needed, helping personnel investigate emerging electrical problems during real-time exercises and contingencies while reducing unnecessary exposure at critical power equipment.
The PS5000 works with a broad selection of current probes, voltage probes, and other accessories. With PowerSight MV probes, direct measurement capability spans 0.005 to 6,000 A AC, 5 to 2,000 A DC, and 1 to 15,000 V RMS. Configurable input ratios extend the analyzer’s usefulness when measurements are taken through scaled external devices (such as CTs). This versatility supports low-current electronics and communications loads, high-horsepower motors and pumps, medium-voltage distribution, and specialized 400 Hz or DC systems used in defense applications, allowing one analyzer to support work from garrison bases to shipyards and test ranges.
For diagnostics, the PS5000 captures swells, sags, and inrush events on a half-cycle basis, as well as high-speed absolute and relative transients associated with non-RMS events such as switching activity. It supports total harmonic distortion analysis and logs individual harmonics through the 63rd order in percentage and RMS values. The optional FAO capability extends spectrum analysis to 100 kHz, giving users greater visibility for root-cause analysis, compliance assessment, and mitigation planning.
The analyzer supports up to 558 different measurement types, including consumed, generated, and net power; leading and lagging VAR; and voltage and current unbalance. A high-speed mode records maximum and minimum single cycles of V RMS, A RMS, and W RMS each second for a high-resolution view of power variability each second. These measurements enable installation energy managers to analyze loading, VAR flows, and unbalance across microgrids, on-base generation, and critical loads, supporting projects that increase energy resilience toward statutory availability targets for critical missions.
Redundant memory (Internal memory with an SD card in parallel) and redundant communications (Bluetooth and USB) ensure success during and after the study. An eight-hour standard battery backup ensures logging continues through long power outages, and users can also capture current and voltage signatures when power is restored. Bluetooth also supports local operation from outside the arc-flash boundary, and the handheld instrument carries a 1000 V CAT III / 600 V CAT IV safety rating per IEC 61010-1.
Manufactured in the USA by Summit Technology, the PS5000 combines portable three-phase power quality analysis, extensive data-logging flexibility, detailed event and harmonic capture, remote-monitoring compatibility, and report-analysis capabilities for military and defense operations.
